Woody Allen talks about the Oscars

- Do you feel happy for having been nominated in the Oscars?
No, I don’t. I don’t think about the Oscars and I don’t think about the Golden globes either. I would like that the prizes will represent something, but unfortunately seen the way in which they are organized, I don’t believe that they serve for much ".
- So you aren't agreeing with the nomination of the Oscars 2009 for Vicki Cristina Barcelona?
Not exactly. "Vicky Cristina Barcelona” for me was history before the Oscars, I did it two years ago, already it was released, the people liked it and I’m grateful for it.
- Looking back on your career, it’s so amazing, everyone is clamoring to work with you, you have total creative control. Have you ever just sat back and thought to yourself, I am just incredibly lucky?
I say that all the time. I always say that I’ve been incredibly lucky and that people have a tendency to underplay the roll of luck in life and I feel that people underplay that because they’re so scared to lose control. I don’t feel that. I feel that I’ve been completely lucky.

3- the Oscars

What I think about the Oscars?
In my opinion the Oscars are important to recognize the actors’ tasks. The Oscars is a nice moment because the ceremony is a moment of unity for the world. But I think that in the Oscars they spend a lot of money that it is necessary to help a many people in the world.

2- the Oscars

The Oscars at the beginning and the Oscars in the actuality
At first the Oscars’ ceremony awarded the better actors and actress of the moment; Grace Kelly, Barbara Streisand, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Gran… A few years later, Oscars awarded the overproductions of Hollywood. In these films the actors and actresses were very good. For twenty years, the cinema is based with marketing and money has more importance. Now the Oscars not only represent the simple ceremony, represent a glamour red carpet, for example.

1- the Oscars

The Oscars history
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was established in May 1927 as a non-profit corporation to promote the art of movie making. In the first year, the Academy had 36 members. The first Academy Awards, now better known as the Oscars, were presented at a private dinner in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, with less than 250 persons attending.

Agreeing to establish an annual award, the group turned its attention to creating a suitably majestic trophy. MGM art director Cedric Gibbons designed a statuette of a knight standing on a reel of film gripping a crusader’s sword. The Academy tapped Los Angeles sculptor George Stanley to realise the design in three dimensions.

A letter: explaining a problem

I’ve had a problem recently. My parents have said that I can’t see my girlfriend again because she is a bad influence on me.

I’m worried because my girlfriend isn’t a bad influence, she’s a fantastic girl and I don’t want to lose her. I think my girlfriend is a good influence on me, because I’m happier. But maybe my parents would be more open about our relationship if I introduced her to them, so they can see that my girlfriend is a nice person.

I’d really like some advice because if my parents don’t understand me soon, I’ll probably go away with my girlfriend.

A discussion essay

Books or the Net??

Many people today, depend on books and the Internet for various reasons. Books and the Internet are usually used to research, for school subjects or personal interests….

Books are portable and easier to use and they are in hard copy; but the books may lost, stolen or aren’t in the bookshops. The Internet, on the other hand, has entertainment for all ages, from children to adults. It is a source of communication and gives recent information, which is updated every few days or hours. It’s an efficiently tool. But internet can be unreliable at times.

All in all, I think that books and the Internet have the same importance. On balance, the Internet is quite good.
